It’s getting very close to arrivals time and we are excited for the upcoming Work & Travel USA season! As stated earlier, these are the approved arrival dates for Summer 2010 Work and Travel USA Job Placement, Job Fair, and Direct Hire participants.

We will be accepting arrivals into New York on the following dates:

May 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 31
June 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30
July 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21

We will be unable to accommodate any arrival dates that fall on a Thursday, Friday, or during the weekend. If your students arrive on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, they will not have a hotel in NYC.
*Orientation will occur the next morning either in the New Yorker Hotel or at the InterExchange office. We will send you an email about which location it will be held.

The hotel is the same as last year and is not difficult to get to:

On some nights, when the hotel cannot accommodate our large groups, some students will be staying at Hostelling International. I will contact you specifically if this is the case.*Groups of 25 or more arriving on the same flight will be picked up at the airport, but this year, there will be no representative. IMPORTANT: If you have a group of more than 25, please let us know as soon as possible, so we can arrange for their pickup.
You must send flight information for all participants, otherwise we cannot guarantee them a hotel space. In the event that they arrive on the same flight as a larger group, we may be able to arrange a pick up together.


For groups that are NOT picked up, they will need to make their way to the hotel. Please find the directions below.

If students arriving at NEWARK AIRPORT (EWR) are NOT BEING MET, they should do the following:
- Students should make sure their DS-2019 has been stamped (they should go back and have it stamped if it is not), they have all of their luggage, and they have been through customs.
- Students should go to the Ground Transportation Center and wait for an Olympia Airport Express Bus. It will cost them about $12, and it will take them to 34th Street and 8th Avenue across from the New Yorker Hotel.
- Do not take a taxi from Newark Airport. It is very expensive.

If students arriving at LA GUARDIA AIRPORT(LGA) are NOT BEING MET, they should do the following.
- Students should make sure their DS-2019 has been stamped (they should go back and have it stamped if it is not), they have all of their luggage, and they have been through customs.
- Students (maximum of 4) can take a taxi (a yellow taxi) from the airport taxi area. The cost is about $30-35 plus tip and tolls for one taxi. The taxis are available during flight hours at taxi stands located outside of the terminal. The approximately travel time is between 30 to 40 minutes longer on peak hours.
- Students can also take the New York Airport Service Express bus. The bus runs every 20 minutes 7:20 AM to 11:00 PM. They can buy a ticket from the bus driver or from a ticket representative standing outside the bus. Make sure they tell the bus driver that they want to go to Penn Station/34th Street, this is right next to the hotel.
- Students can also opt to take a Super Shuttle from the airport to 481 Eighth Avenue. The rate is between $15-$22. Call 1(800) 258-3826 to get on demand service.

If students arriving at JFK are NOT BEING MET, they should do the following:
-Students should make sure their DS-2019 has been stamped (they should go back and have it stamped if it is not), they have all of their luggage, and they have been through customs.
-Students can take a taxi (a yellow taxi) from the airport taxi area to the New Yorker Hotel. It will cost them about $45 plus tip and tolls and take about 45 minutes. Make sure they let the driver know as soon as they get in the taxi that they want the flat rate ($45) from the airport. The driver should not be using the meter to determine the rate, and the students should not take "no" for an answer when they ask for the flat rate.
-Students can also take the New York Airport Service bus which will stop on the street outside their terminal. They can buy a ticket from the bus driver or from a ticket representative standing outside the bus. Make sure they tell the bus driver that they want to go to Penn Station/34th Street. The ride will cost about $13.
- Another option is to take the subway. They can take the A train (blue line) towards Manhattan. The stop is Penn Station/34th Street. This is least recommended since the ride will take about an hour, but will only cost $2.00.

ONCE THEY GET TO THE NEW YORKER HOTEL
They should check into their room by giving their name and saying they are part of the InterExchange group. They should request an InterExchange Arrival Kit from the front desk attendant. If the person at the front desk doesn't understand what or where the kits are, they will receive one at orientation the next day.

The kit will contain a student handbook and other materials that they will need throughout their stay in the US. They need to remember that there may already be 1 or 2 people in their room once they get there. There are 3-4 people per room total. They may want to purchase a $7 Fun Pass for the subway so that they can explore the city in groups. More information on this is located in their arrival kit.

Please alert the students that New York is a large city, and they should be very aware of their personal belongings at all times.

THE NEXT MORNING
Orientation will be held the day after the students arrive at 9:30 AM. Orientation will be about 2 hours long. Students will receive information on taxes, insurance, bank accounts, driving in the US, and applying for a Social Security card. Students will also receive information on how to travel to their employers, where to purchase bus tickets, etc.

Students will depart for their jobs the day after orientation.

Emergency Number: In the case of an emergency cooperators can call 917-873-5877 (InterExchange Emergency cell phone).
