As an exchange visitor on a J-1 visa, you should be familiar with the term SEVIS. The SEVIS database is where the US government and sponsor keep your exchange visitor record.

To activate your visa, you must notify CIEE of your US address within 20 days of your start date, 6/10/2011. If you fail to register, Immigration and Customs Enforcement will automatically terminate your program in SEVIS and you will have to return home.



You can register online at MySEVIS or by calling CIEE toll free at 1-888-268-6245. If you have not yet arrived in the United States, it is important to contact your local sending office to amend your program dates and receive a new DS-2019 Form. If you travel beyond the current dates listed, Immigration and Customs Enforcement may turn you away at the airport.



Please call CIEE or register for SEVIS online as soon as possible.
