Dear Cooperators,
As of January 1, 2011, InterExchange will be offering increased insurance coverage for all participants of the Work & Travel Program. The premium will increase and the coverage will more than double, ensuring the health and well being of our participants.
The U.S. Department of State mandates that all participants have health insurance for the full duration of the program (including the 30 day travel period). InterExchange offers insurance coverage that far exceeds the minimum required by the Department of State; we feel it is necessary and appropriate to insist upon superior coverage for our students. Our insurance policy includes:
Medical benefits (accident and sickness) of up to $200,000
Repatriation benefits of up to $25,000
Medical evacuation benefits of up to $50,000
Dental benefits of up to $75 (per tooth)
We also offer students a broad network of affiliated doctors through the First Health Network. We strongly recommend that students seek the help and advice of doctors in the First Health Network. To find an in-network doctor, please visit the InterExchange Insurance Resource web page, which is currently being updated to reflect the changes mentioned above. Students will be required to pay a $40 co-pay per visit within the First Health Network. Please remind students that out-of-network doctors may be unfamiliar with our insurance policy which could result in delayed claims processing. Please remind students that should they receive medical treatment at a hospital emergency room and not be admitted to the hospital, they will be required to pay a $250 deductible.
As soon as we have received updated documents, including a detailed Summary of Coverage, Insurance ID Card, and Claim Form, I will email them as attachments. These documents will also be available for download through our web site; should students lose their ID Card or need an Claim Form, please direct them to this web site. Additionally, we encourage students to familiarize themselves with the Summary of Coverage so that they will be informed in the event they need medical attention.

We will be insuring students based on their arrival dates and their SEVIS end dates, plus 30 days to cover the travel period. Therefore, we must be informed of changes in students’ travel plans as soon as they occur. If students arrive before they are scheduled to do so, they will not be covered for that period of time. If students arrive after their scheduled arrival date, they will be charged for coverage regardless.
We are sensitive to your position as our partner, and acknowledge that you may meet some resistance from students when they are presented with the increased rate. We ask for your support in communicating the changes in our insurance policy to students, and thank you in advance for your loyalty to the InterExchange Work & Travel Program.
